Artist’s Worldview
The artist’s worldview is defined by ‘Order, Cycle, and Teum(gap/crack).’
To observe objects and phenomena of the world in quiet stillness.
To turn inwards, reflecting and discerning the self.
GwanJo, Gwana, and subjects(world/oneself) have their own orders.
Each of them circulates on their own and affects each other.
Order
The world, including humanity, follows order.
To Jung, the basic principle of order is .
These circulate with one another.
Order = Cycle
There is always Teum within the order of cycles.
Teum
Teum is both a breathing hole and the birth of a crack.
Exhaling between the Teum, a step into a new world unlike before.
Order is born in Teum and grown within it.
“GwanJo is observing objects and phenomena of the world in quiet stillness, and GwanA is turning inwards, reflecting and discerning the self.
The cycle of doing GwanA for deeper GwanJo,
and doing GwanJo through GwanA.
And Teum that raised from it.
These gradually penetrate deeper into the artist, inside and out.
These make me to constantly question existence and change.”
Artist’s Note
Height, Depth, and Flow
; The fundamentally Subjective Study of the order of Matter and Human Nature
The work began as my curiosity about myself spread into the surrounding order.
What the artist considers as the world is made up of order, and its basic principle is 2)Height, Depth, and Flow. This applies to the order of Matter and Human Nature.
Order
Small particles gather and build this world. They don’t just form shapes and sizes; they also create properties. These unconscious tiny things create both objects and humans. Then, they make rules and societies, suddenly mutate, and apply to a individuals and groups. In the process, there exists a clear order that is not hidden yet unseen.
This study is about the order that makes entities interact with each other.
-Order is a promise. It does move matter and emotions. It appears scattered, but moves with a certain direction. Up close, it seems chaotic, but from afar, it follows a promise.
-A promise make Teum(gap/crack). This always lies dormant within order.
-Teum has distance. The constant push and pull between forces. Between materials, this distance is every-shifting yet maintained, like the movement of planets in the universe or the orbits of atoms in matter. Between human beings, distance preserves individuality. Yet, it is also the reason of conflict and anxiety.
-Therefore, conflicts are necessary in order.
Height, Depth, and Flow
The basic principle of the order of this world is . It contains the physical nature of things and the emotional aspects of human beings. All promises, whether great of small, interact with each other to shape the world. Therefore, represents the process. There is no such thing as completion or result. The process of creating harmony is called ‘the world’. In this universe, order shows the progress. There is no result. As the material world endlessly transforms into other forms, so too does an end not exist. The same goes for people. This is why there is no perfect person. We each create our own values and act according to them. Some follow height, some follow depth, and some follow flow. They devote their whole lives.
are applied to matter and humanity. The principle of the physical world, of human beings, and of human-made societies do not seem so different after all. The physical nature of things and the emotional aspects of human beings, their order and conflict, and harmony…within it, we encounter the world and ourselves. Orders continuously shape both matter and humanity. I study and work with the physical properties of the world and the nature of humans. And so, quite naturally, this becomes a story about the world and about ourselves.
